About
Root Healing sets a global standard for Iboga retreats that are safe, effective, and true to the tradition the medicine comes from.
Our core belief is simple: we don't force Iboga into Western models. We listen to the one it built for itself. The Missoko Bwiti tradition — its ceremonies, integration, and the way each person is held — was refined over thousands of years of direct experience with this medicine, and it's inseparable from how Iboga heals.
We work with whole-root Iboga, not isolated ibogaine. The full root is an already-complete medicine whose alkaloids work in harmony — a meaningfully safer profile than the isolated compound, which carries iboga's cardiac risk. This is paired with the most advanced medical safety: thorough cardiac and contraindication screening, continuous EKG monitoring, advanced emergency equipment, and a clinical team certified in BLS and ACLS. Safe and Holistic should not be a trade-off.
We don't claim to treat or cure. We offer support for people managing challenges across the mental, physical, and spiritual — including substance use, trauma and emotional health, neuroregenerative and physical health, behavioral patterns, and reconnecting to life.
Locations: USA (Oregon, Connecticut, Maine) • Europe • Mexico • Online spiritual care & integration
Unlike high-volume clinics, our core team personally holds the container for each guest — the relationship and the depth of the work are inseparable. Nearly seven years of consistent retreats. Over 1,000 people held directly.
How we work with clients
It begins with an application, not a booking. Everyone who reaches out to us starts with an application form that helps us understand your history, your intentions, and whether this path is genuinely right for you. From there, one of our advisors reaches out personally to talk through your situation and which program fits.
Medical screening comes before anything else. Every guest completes a thorough intake and medical review led by our medical team, including a health questionnaire, a recent EKG, and — where indicated — liver function testing. We screen carefully for cardiac contraindications and medication interactions well before arrival. If Iboga isn't safe or appropriate for you, we will tell you, and we'll help you think about what might serve you better.
Preparation is part of the work. Before you arrive, you'll have preparation calls with our team to clarify your intentions, understand what to expect, and make the practical and emotional adjustments that set the experience up well. By the time you land, the only thing left to focus on is your own healing.
On retreat, the container is held by one team. Our retreats run 6–8 days and include two Iboga ceremonies. Days move through counseling and intention-setting, an evening fire talk where the tradition is taught and shared, the ceremony itself in a candle-lit room held with Bwiti music and song, and then processing days — often where the deepest realizations land. Integration day trips into nature, one-on-one counseling, and a closing circle round out the week. There are no handoffs between departments: facilitators, medical staff, and support team work as a single unit, present with you throughout.
Integration continues long after you leave. Iboga's neuroplastic window stays open for months, which makes the period after the retreat as important as the retreat itself. Every guest receives integration coaching calls — as many as they need — along with practical homework tied to the goals they arrived with. Guests are also welcomed into our ongoing community group, where people continue supporting one another well past their retreat. For those wanting more structure, we offer a dedicated aftercare program and spiritual care and counseling.
We work with people, not diagnoses. Bwiti treats each person as whole rather than broken, and it is flexible by design — meeting you where you are rather than fitting you into a predetermined protocol.
Treatment approach
Whole-plant Iboga, not isolated ibogaine. This is one of the most important distinctions in our work. Ibogaine is only one of dozens of active alkaloids in Iboga root bark; others, including ibogamine and tabernanthine, carry significant therapeutic properties of their own and appear to work synergistically. Using whole root bark or a total alkaloid extract allows us to reach profound healing at a lower, safer concentration of ibogaine — meaningful given that ibogaine's primary metabolite, noribogaine, is associated with effects on the heart's electrical system at high doses. Beyond the pharmacology, the Bwiti understand that Iboga carries its own intelligent spirit, and that extracting a single molecule leaves the medicine's most essential element behind.
Safe and holistic should not be a trade-off. Our medical framework is among the most rigorous in this field. Comprehensive cardiac and contraindication screening happens before arrival. On site, we utilize 12-lead EKG monitoring, defibrillators, and full emergency medical equipment, with monitoring sustained before, during, and after each ceremony. Our Bwiti facilitators are trained in basic life support in addition to the safety practices carried within the tradition itself — so the people holding your spiritual container are equally prepared if your body needs them.
The Bwiti tradition as the therapeutic framework. We use Bwiti the way a clinical setting uses a structured framework — as a coherent approach with specific tools and methods — but the comparison ends there. Clinical modalities tend to locate the problem inside the person as a disorder to be managed and place healing in the hands of an external expert. Bwiti works in the opposite direction: it connects people to their own innate power and treats each person as already whole. The ceremonies, songs, fire talks, rituals, and integration practices were developed in direct relationship with Iboga over thousands of years, and they are inseparable from how the medicine heals.
What the medicine does. Iboga works on the whole person at once. Neurologically, its alkaloids stimulate GDNF, BDNF, and NGF — the brain's own regenerative proteins — supporting new synaptic connections and opening a sustained window of neuroplasticity. For substance dependence, ibogaine binds to the same receptor sites the substance has occupied, which for many people dramatically reduces or eliminates withdrawal symptoms and interrupts craving at its physiological root. Psychologically, Iboga reaches into the subconscious where trauma actually lives and brings it into clear awareness — the Bwiti call it the "truth-teller." The experience is lucid and conscious rather than disorienting, which is why it's often described as oneirogenic rather than classically psychedelic.
Our programs. We offer six dedicated pathways: Substance Use Liberation (Iboga Assisted Detox), Trauma & Emotional Healing, Neuroregenerative & Physical Healing, Behavioral Addiction, Reclaiming & Connecting to Life, and our Traditional Iboga Retreat. Every program pairs lineage-led ceremony with our full medical protocol and complementary wellness therapies that support integration.
What we ask of you. Iboga is not a passive cure. The medicine opens the door and illuminates what needs to be seen, but you have to walk through it, meet what you're shown honestly, and do the work of integrating it at home. The main requirement for a successful experience is a genuine willingness to accept the truth and let go. Those who meet the medicine halfway are the ones who experience the deepest and most lasting change.
